Finding beauty in everyday life through street photography

Hello and welcome! I’m Olivier.

I am a contemporary street photographer based in the medieval city of Bruges, Belgium.

Although photography is now my primary medium, I did not formally study it. My creative journey began with video, where I first developed an understanding of storytelling, timing, and visual rhythm. Over time, I transitioned to still imagery, experimenting with various genres before discovering that street photography best reflected my way of seeing the world.

Bruges is my photographic playground. I wander its cobbled streets and historic squares in search of the extraordinary hiding quietly within the ordinary. Working within this medieval backdrop is an exercise in patient observation—waiting for fleeting gestures, layered compositions, and the decisive moment when locals and visitors animate the scene. Human interaction remains central to my practice, whether expressed through subtle glances, dynamic movement, or quiet solitude.

visual language

My visual language is strongly influenced by colour and contrast. I am inspired by the poetic use of light and colour found in the work of Saul Leiter and by the bold, graphic compositions of Belgian street photographer Harry Gruyaert. Their approaches encourage me to embrace vibrancy, shadow, and atmosphere as storytelling tools.

While Bruges grounds my work, I am equally motivated by travel. Exploring other cities allows me to engage with different cultures, architecture, and culinary traditions—each offering new visual energy and perspective. Through my photography, I aim to transform everyday urban life into images that feel both timeless and distinctly contemporary.

goalposts

While studying at the London School of Photography, I was honoured to be named Student of the Week, a milestone that encouraged me to keep pushing my craft. Since then, my work has appeared in exhibitions across Belgium, including my first solo show in Knokke-Heist, and has been featured internationally in places like Fujilove Magazine in Switzerland, as well as an interview on Belgium’s Radio 2 Podcast.

Thank you for being here.

Feel free to explore my stories to learn more about my projects or follow my journey on social media. I’m glad to have you along.
